This is a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Mayberry Patrol Car, rightly named Aunt Bea. It is owned by Captain Herb of WSB AM 750 Radio.
Aunt Bea is a great strong running survivor, and cruises down the highway at 65 as smooth as silk. Mechanically, we did a brake rebuild to include E-Brake cables
and hard and soft lines, all new shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, hardware, springs, and adjusters.
As for paint and body, we did a heavy duty preservation paint job stripping through several layers of paint down to the original, and going through it where there was moisture trapped
under all the repaints. All the trim was removed, and any rusted through areas were sand blasted, stabilized and rebuilt. The body was sprayed with PPG Epoxy
Primer, High Build Primer, wet sanded, and sprayed w/ PPG urethane enamel. The car originally had a red interior. We removed all the interior metal trim pieces,
masked off the dash, prepped and sprayed them with epoxy and PPG single stage Black with a flattening agent to dull it down to a satin finish. Masking the 4 door car inside out
for the two colors to include doing the jams and the dash alone took about 20 hours.
We finished the car just in time for it to lead the 2005 Douglasville Georgia Labor Day Parade.
The Parade pictures shown here are of Capt. Herb and Karen in the 2005 Mount Airy Days parade September 24th 2005 on Main Street in Mount Airy North Carolina. It was
by far the best looking Mayberry Patrol Car, if I do say so myself.
