1984 El Camino - Full Resto-Mod

This is a 1984 El Camino sent down from Indiana for a full "resto-mod".  The car was actually driven here all the way from Indiana.  A custom console was built for under the dash, a Gaylords Custom Lid taneau cover added over the bed, electric door locks, an alarm, Dakato Digital Cruise, and an auto dim/compass/temp rear view mirror was added.  The dash was sent to Just Dashes to be re-done, new carpet and seats were installed, and a custom under hood embroidered insulation pad was done in blue that was matched to the paint.  The speedometer was recalibrated to 140MPH, and an original Tic-Toc-Tac was added.  Fog lights were added and custom blended into the front spoiler air slots which looks really cool!

The body on this vehicle is really straight, the worst area being two minor dings in the hood.  A straight body with existing good paint really speeds up the process and is a nice break from dealing with rust.  The vehicle was originally two-tone blue but was changed to a single tone 2005 GM Lemans Blue.  The lower body trim separating the previous two colors was removed which required grinding all the trim studs and reblending.

The wussy stock 305 smogger was replaced with a 350 stroker already dyno tested from The Engine Factory.  The body was lifted off the frame and the frame received a 90% media blast before being epoxied and painted.  The entire front and rear suspension were rebuilt, all new brake and fuel lines replaced, and the entire brake system rebuilt including the proportioning valve.  The exhaust was upgraded to dual Magnaflow which required a new cross brace to be made.  A new fuel tank and sender were were replaced, and the drive shaft was balanced and new u-joints installed.  The body was lowered back onto the frame with all new fresh frame-to-body cushions.  All the A/C components were boiled out, new hoses made, and all vacuum controls were replaced.

The car was taken to several car shows while waiting for the shipper to pick it up.  It won an "outstanding" in the El Camino class at the 2006 Atlanta Dragway Super Chevy show, and Chip Foose of Overhaulin saw it while at the Year One June 2006 Braselton Bash.  The car was a big hit each time it was taken out for a test drive or to a show while waiting to be picked up.  The most outstanding features being the color, the bed cover and the under hood blanket.  The owner gets full credit for all these as he did much research and picked out all of these items.

The last three photos show the car moments before shipping on June 29th, 2006.  The car rides and drives like an absolutely brand new car!
